Market access update
A unique opportunity to learn, collaborate, and create solutions: my experience as a market access intern at PRMA Consulting

It was a pleasure to welcome Franziska to the PRMA Consulting team during her market access internship. In this update, she shares her thoughts on working with us and suggests how other students can make the most of their time working as a market access intern.
An internship in market access is an amazing way to strengthen knowledge and discover new areas of interest
While pursuing a Master’s degree in International Health Policy (Health Economics) at the London School of Economics and Political Science, I learned that many healthcare systems around the world are under pressure to reduce the cost of billing, so you can imagine how excited I was to hear that PRMA Consulting, a member of Fishawack Health, offers students the opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the company’s mission to “create the connections that make better health happen”.
I knew the internship would be an amazing opportunity to apply and strengthen my knowledge in economics and healthcare, develop my skill set, and discover new areas of interest. I was right!
I have gained valuable insights into a variety of areas of market access whilst working as an intern at PRMA Consulting
I worked on multiple projects during my internship. One was to support the Project Management team. Here, I gained valuable insights into the day-to-day business activities of PRMA Consulting. I was fascinated by the expertise that the teams within PRMA Consulting and Fishawack Health have, and the variety of biopharma manufacturers that they support.
Another of my roles was to assist with PRMA Tracker® projects.
The PRMA Tracker® is a digital application that helps pharmaceutical companies monitor competitive Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and P&R landscapes for their assets. Through critical analysis of competitors’ HTA and P&R decisions, a PRMA Tracker® project helps inform HTA strategy and enables companies to adapt to evolving payer expectations to improve the quality of their submission.
During this project, I had the opportunity to learn about HTA agencies in different countries and I was able to develop a deeper understanding of the HTA decision-making processes.
I have strengthened my analytical ability and problem-solving skills during my internship
Taking responsibility for various projects at the same time, I developed my ability to multi-task and produce high-quality work to tight deadlines.
I was also able to strengthen my problem-solving and analytical skills through the research project I carried out for my dissertation in collaboration with PRMA Consulting. For my project (The challenges and opportunities when using real-world evidence in HTA for rare disease treatments in different markets), I devised an approach to conduct the analysis in a systematic way, and based on an initial search of the literature, I developed an extraction template to capture relevant pieces of information for analysis. My approach was received well by colleagues.
A unique opportunity to discuss complex issues, share different perspectives, and create unique solutions
From my international studies, I know how much I like working with people from all over the world. This was reinforced during my internship at PRMA Consulting where I saw first-hand how valuable it is to collaborate with colleagues who have diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives.
While my background is in (Health) Economics and Business Management, many of my colleagues had a background in science and technology-related subjects. This provided the unique opportunity to discuss complex issues with different perspectives leading to unique solutions.
You can never ask enough questions during your internship – you’ll find the support is always there
My advice to any students taking an internship would be you can never ask enough questions! Based on my experience at PRMA Consulting, you’ll find everyone is always happy to explain complex topics and provide context.
It is also worth scheduling regular catch-ups with your line manager. My line manager did this and gave me great support and guidance throughout my internship. They made sure that my projects were going well and were always happy to answer every question that came up. They were not only very knowledgeable but were also always up for a laugh, which created an atmosphere that made me feel inspired and well-supported.
I also received great support for my dissertation from a Senior Director. Despite being very busy, they always took time to answer all my questions, supported me to overcome challenges, and inspired me to identify new areas of interest.
