Happy Diwali/Deepavali

Written by Satabdi Mishra

Happy Diwali/Deepavali to all our colleagues and clients. Diwali is a time for prosperity and celebrations, and we wish the same for you and your nearanddear ones.

Our colleague Satabdi Mishra, Consultant, shares her thoughts of Diwali 2021 with us.

Diwali/Deepavali signifies the spiritual and symbolic triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. This is also associated in many cultures with prosperity and abundance. Hence, you can see in many parts of the world that people start the celebrations by cleaning and repainting their houses to welcome the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, to their homes and shops. Another interpretation is that when Lord Ram returned home after a 14-year exile, the people celebrated his return by the use of lamps (diya/deep).

The common thread across various cultures is that Diwali is a time for family, friends, celebrations, reflections, and hope. Here, in Singapore, we are far away from our families given the Covid-19 restrictions. But, in my own way, I am looking forward to keeping the traditions alive as I introduce my little one to this time of celebrations  it will be our first Diwali with our son, Aarav.

For us, this Diwali will be extra special. We have a lot to be thankful for this year and, as another Diwali rolls in, I count my blessings that my loved ones are safe and healthy, and that we have been able to lead a relatively normal life. Sometimes, you want to believe in a divine intervention that will help humanity through difficult times such as right now. As we pray to the gods this Diwali, I will send a silent prayer out in the universe to help us restore normalcy across the world. May the less fortunate find hope and prosperity and may the fortunate fill their hearts with gratitude and compassion.

I know the power kindness has, so here’s hoping for a kinder world where, in the company of loved ones, everyone’s lives are a little brighter, smiles a little wider, and suffering a little lighter. As sparklers emit bright colourful lights around the world this Diwali, I wish all of us, a prosperous, peaceful, and joyous celebration. Happy Diwali!!
